As it ran in the paper, the first instance of Pale-Urin*ooze*shun-yellow was written Pale-Urin*ooze( shun-yellow, extraneous parenthesis [sic].
After contemplating this orthographic oddity at great length, and especially in light of the second, more plausible version that follows, I reached the editorial conclusion that this parenthesis was a misprint (it is after all one key to the right of Danny’s reliable, time-tested asterisk) and made the editorial decision to render it [recte], bringing the initial iteration of this Dannyism into line with subsequent usage.
